Fall is fast approaching and today when I was at the Amish farms and saw the first of this seasons pumpkins coming in and the winter squash. I started thinking about pumpkin breads and pies. I started thinking about Thanksgiving dinner. I know it is early but this is the best time to start my holiday dinner planning though so I will not be so rushed at holiday time. So I decided to start early this year and share the families favorite recipes with you and hopefully ya’ll will find one or two recipes that will become your families favorites also.
Amish Pumpkin Bread 2:
3 cups granulated sugar
1 cups vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
1 lb. canned pumpkin
3-1/2 cups flour
2/3 cups water
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. EACH: cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg
Mix sugar, oil and eggs together. Add pumpkin. Then add dry ingredient and finally water, stirring just until mixed. Pour batter into two (2) greased and floured 9×5 inch loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for one (1) hour. Especially good smeared with cream cheese or fresh sweet butter.

Tim and I both love to treat ourselves out to Popeye’s for some great fried chicken and biscuits every once in awhile. I love Popeye’s biscuits so much I decided to try and come as close as I could to their recipe. This is about the fifth or sixth recipe I created and Tim says these are the closest so far.
I hope ya’ll give them a try and let me know how close I have gotten.
Patti’s Close As Can Be Popeye’s Biscuits:
2 cups bisquik
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup Sprite or citrus flavored soda
Mix Bisquick and sour cream with pastry blender.
Stir in Sprite.
Pat lightly on a floured surface.
Cut out biscuits and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet at 400°F for 10-12 minutes. Brush with melted butter

With the approach of August I hate cooking in the house but it is also to hot to grill most days. So I crock pot it a lot from now till spring just to make my life easier. I decided to share a few more of my favorite crock pot recipes with you. I hope ya’ll really enjoy them as much as we do. Let me hear what ya’ll think.
Beef Short Ribs With Baby Carrots:
2 pounds beef short ribs
2 cups beef broth
1 large onion sliced
flour to coat ribs
salt and pepper to taste
1 pound washed and peeled baby carrots
2 gloves garlic minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
Dredge the ribs in the flour, shake of excess flour. let rest five minutes. brown all all sides in a frying pan with 2 tablespoons olive oil.
Place a layer of onions in the crock pot, then the baby carrots. Add the ribs. Place remaining onions on top of the ribs. Add the broth, place lid on the crock pot. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours.
I usually serve mine with Jasmine Rice and gravy. I also serve a nice salad and rolls.
Hope to see ya’ll soon.
