Salt FREE Spice Mixes

Since Tim is now on dialysis awaiting a Kidney Transplant. I have had to throw SALT out the window. Tim is on an absolute NO SALT ADDED DIET. I thought this would be difficult but it is really simple. Especially since I have never cooked with salt anyway. But I would cheat from time to time buying those little packages from the grocery store not even thinking about the sodium content in them. Boy was I surprised. Those little packages are loaded with salt.

So I decided to set out and create spice mixes that I could make and store till needed or make and use as needed. so far I have created two.  One is a taco seasoning and the other is for a Lawry’s type season salt.

TACO SEASONING:

3 TEASPOONS MINCED ONIONS

2 TEASPOONS CHILI POWDER

1 TEASPOON CRUSHED RED CHILI PEPPER (OPTIONAL)

1/2 TEASPOON OREGNO

1 TEASPOON CORNSTARCH

1 TEASPOON MINCED GARLIC FLAKES OR 1/2 TEASPOON GARLIC POWDER

Mix all ingredients well; store in an airtight container till ready to use. th9is will make enough spice mixture as if you bought 2 of the store bought packages.

TO USE:

Brown one pound of ground beef; strain of grease, rinse meat return to skillet add half the spice mixture ( 2 tablespoons ), half cup of water. reduce heat, stir and simmer 10 minutes.

NO SALT SEASON ALL:

2 TEASPOONS SUGAR OR SPLENDA

1/2 TEASPOON PAPRIKA

1/2 TEASPOON TUMERIC

1/2 TEASPOON ONION POWDWER

1/2 TEASPOON GARLIC POWDER

Combine  all spices mix well. Store in an airtight till ready to use.
