This is the best Cinnamon Bred I have ever had. Tim prefers it with raisins and a powdered sugar glace. But I just prefer it plain and simple. Just Like the people who turned me onto the fabulous bread at the Amish market in Mechanicsville. It is really fantastic. Hope ya’ll try it and let me know what you think.
Amish Cinnamon Bread
1 cup sourdough starter (see below for recipe)
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup granulated sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 (3 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup raisins
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease three 9 x 5-inch loaf pans.
Place the starter in a bowl. Stir in oil, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract and mix well.
Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, instant pudding and cinnamon. Add the flour mixture to the starter mixture and beat by hand. Add the pecans, raisins and mix well. Pour batter into the prepared pans. Will make 3 nice sized loaves.
This is the recipe that I use as my starter. It is the starter for Amish Friendship Bread.
Amish Friendship Bread:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
Day 1: Stir (do not refrigerate mix). I put mine in Zipper style storage or freezer bags.
Day 2: Stir.
Day 3: Stir.
Day 4: Stir.
Day 5: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk and stir.
Day 6: Stir.
Day 7: Stir.
Day 8: Stir.
Day 9: Stir.
Day 10: Stir and again add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk.
This starter can be used for several different sourdough breads. Give it a try and let me know what ya’ll think.

This is a great recipe for the cool fall days or as a great winter dish. A Friend shared this recipe with me and I have made a few changes. As she did not specify any cook times when she shared the recipe with me. Ya’ll have got to give this a try and tell me what ya’ll think.
Amish Country Ribs and Sauerkraut:
Country-style ribs
3 pounds sauerkraut
3/4 cup chopped onion
6 to 8 whole cloves
1 1/2 cups chopped Granny Smith apples
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Black Pepper
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
Simmer or slow cook ( in a crock pot) country style ribs till tender about 3 hours if simmering and about 6 hours if using the crock pot.
In a large roasting pan or casserole dish mix together sauerkraut, onion, cloves, apples, brown sugar, pepper and chicken broth.
Bury ribs at random in sauerkraut mixture. Pour chicken broth over top. Bake at 325 degrees F for 2 hours.
This is a truly fabulous recipe Tim with his ancestry being German he just loves this recipe.

I have always wondered why my favorite white bread came from the little Amish General store in Loveville till I finally got the recipe the other day. It is so simple and easy to make I just had to share it with ya’ll. I hope ya’ll enjoy it.
Amish White Bread:
2 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups bread flour or a good white flour
In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam.
Mix salt and oil into the yeast. Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat. Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Keep out of drafts.
Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, and divide in half. Shape into loaves, and place into two well oiled 9×5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans. Again keep out of drafts.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Serve with butter and your favorite jams and jellies.
